Video Playlist

Creating a video playlist is easy and free using the popular site, YouTube. For example, I have created an educational playlist for young children that includes multiple sing along videos. I have also created my own video to introduce the videos in order to inform my students what I want them to pull out of watching this list of videos.

Emerging Technology: Mind Meister

Mind Meister is an online program that allows students or teachers to create concept maps. After a short registration process, Mind Meister offers a written tutorial or a video tutorial to help explain the ins and outs of the program. After playing with it for a while, it becomes very simple and fun to use!
This would be a wonderful tool to have for many different projects such as creative writing, research writing, brainstorming, finding main ideas, sequencing information, and many other things.
Mind Meister allows maps to be saved and shared and also allows multiple people edit the maps simultaneously.
Keeping thoughts organized, in a technological way, has never been easier, thanks to Mind Meister!

Photo Story 3

Photo Story 3 is a wonderful program that allows anyone to create a video out of still images. It is a free download that takes about 5 minutes to get it up and running.
The editing features are limited but are simple to use.
In my video I described how to make Spaghetti. I used multiple transitions between photos and used a fun editing tool for my opening slide.

Assistive Technology

DynaVox Maestro is a great tool for students with developmental delays or other cognitive impairments. It allows sentences to be made and messages be conveyed by using a small hand held device with hundreds of picture symbols.
This tool would be very useful in assisting students in classrooms to break the communication barrier. It allows students to use technology in order to communicate with teachers and peers with the speaker feature. Maestro also comes equipped with a camera in order to capture and annotated images.
Maestro is small and sleek standing only two tall but featuring a wide flat screen. It is the perfect size to go anywhere the student does and is durable as well.
Watch this short video clip to get more acquainted with the DynaVox Maestro.

Helpful Text to Speech File Converter

After reviewing many different sites, I think the text to speech application is the most useful file converter that is available to the public at no cost. http://www.carryouttext.com/ is a wonderful tool for in the classroom or at home. It allows multiple different types of files to be quickly translated into audio. Granted the narration is very robotic, the options for this to be a beneficial tool are great. Not all students learn in the same way, this is a great tool to meet the needs of auditory learners. The speed of the narration can be changed easily in order suite the listeners desire.
This program would be great for a child who has a learning disability or who needs extra help with reading. It is ideal to have a one-on-one teacher helping students with their word recognition and reading fluency however that is not always possible. This programs allows students to follow along while listening to each word. This tool is also great for moving texts to audio devices such as MP3 players and iPods in order to listen to any text multiple times.
